Happy Thanksgiving! You've invited a dozen guests and they're all expecting to eat. You know that you don't want to spend the whole holiday in the kitchen, so what are you going to do? Get up at 3 am to put a turkey in the oven? No. How about buying a precooked turkey this year or even purchasing deli sliced turkey and cheese for a sandwich buffet? That way your guests can eat while they mingle, you won't be in the kitchen while everyone's talking and there won't be a bunch of dishes to clean up. Most Thanksgiving parties involve a lot of people, your relatives, and his relatives, some who don't get along; all trying to cram in at the dinner table in a house that suddenly feels too small. When things are like this it may be time to hold your party outside. You can easily hold a party at a park this time of year in the warmer climes. Or if you happen to live in a cold part of the country then invite people to join you at a restaurant or rent a dining hall in your area with lots of space. Do the cooking at home the day before and just head on over. For those of you who like to take on new things this time of year may be a good time to introduce the family to a new way of eating. It may simply be eating healthier that you want to stress with less starches and more fruits and veggies on the table. Or you can really take a risk and cook a tofu turkey. Your guests may love it. They may also hate it and some not even notice. |
