West Virginia State Fair Held in Lewisburg

The State Fair of West Virginia is held each year during mid-August in the town of Lewisburg. Here visitors can enjoy fun in its many varied forms, music from all around the local area and of course midway food!

Favored carnival food comes in the forms of classics such as corn dogs, kettle corn, spiral fries, nachos, and roast corn and turkey legs. Local favorites show up here as well. Look for Biscuits and Gravy, Sweet Potato Fries, Cole Slaw, Brown Beans and Corn Bread and Country Ham.

Those who love to see the sparks fly can watch the fireworks at the state fair on its opening weekend. There are typically three days of fireworks shows and they usually start about 45 minutes after the end of the Grandstand Concert.

The fairgrounds are often filled with strolling entertainment. Look for juggling, imitative comedy clowns and those of many talents as you wander around the fair. If it looks like one of them has pegged you for his or her unwilling volunteer, grin and smile your way through it.

Center Stage on the grounds is the place to go if you are looking for some free entertainment. Here you can find the best of local and traveling bands, country music singers and comedy acts.

Harness Racing is one of the fairs oldest traditions. You can come to the fair and enjoy real live horse races while the rest of the family is off enjoying the midway rides. Admission is free, and betting is not. As well as racing there are also horse shows held in conjunction with livestock shows and for some good fun check out the Farmer's Races. Farmer's and other domesticated animal owners can bring in their horses, ponies, mules, just about anything with four legs that you can ride to join the races.
